KDA-Supported Research Examines Hearing Loss in Kennedy’s Disease/SBMA

May 8, 2026 – A recent study Hearing Function in Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy (SBMA): A Case Control Study From a Tertiary Referral Center explored whether hearing may be affected in people with Kennedy’s Disease, also known as Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy (SBMA), which expanded on earlier findings from two small-scale studies.

Researchers evaluated 36 men with Kennedy’s Disease and 36 age-matched healthy controls using comprehensive audiological assessments, including pure-tone audiometry across various frequencies. They also conducted a correlation analysis to examine the relationship between patients' hearing functions and clinical characteristics.
