Meeting Highlights:
- The meeting was devoted largely to internal deliberations about the future of the KDA. Discussion items included:
- Fundraising and how to move to the next level in our ability to fund research toward a treatment or cure.
- The possibility of engaging outside assistance to enhance our capacity to fulfill KDA’s mission, particularly our ability to raise more funds in the form of sponsorships and grants.
- Potential changes to the Board’s internal structure to increase effectiveness.
- After a briefing from the KDA President and discussion, the Board decided to establish a strategic engagement program called KD Voices to connect sponsors, researchers, and healthcare partners with the lived experiences of the KD community.
- Planning for the KDA 2027 Conference, expected to take place the first week of November, is now focused on selecting a location.
- KDA has received 15 grant and 2 fellowship applications for 2026 which will be reviewed by the KDA SRB (Scientific Review Board).
