Annual Texas Golf Scramble

On Friday, the day before our 13th annual KD Golf Scramble, we held our breaths and said our prayers as the rain poured down almost all day. In our 13 years, we had never been rained out, but there’s always a first time for everything.

At 2:00 AM Saturday, the rain stopped. As the day awakened, the skies could not have been more beautiful and the air fresh and cool. The tournament was a go! Our golfers had to do “cart path only,” but that was a minor inconvenience!

The facility we use holds 140 people; we had 120 golfers!! Our volunteers and committee members stood so we could accommodate our golfers and auction guests! The fact that our tournament has become so popular and grown is a “good problem.”

The day was filled with excitement, joy, and generosity. It was humbling to realize every single person present was there to help us raise money to find a cure for Kennedy’s Disease. This kindheartedness was the overarching feeling of the day! An example of such sweetness was when one young man won the auction bid on a “Mother’s Day package” which included pamper products from Happy Homestead, wine and wine glasses, and a $200 Gift Card to Perry’s Restaurant. His father had proposed to his step-mother at Perry’s and he knew how special that memory was to her. He excitedly gifted her with the basket at the event, and she promptly burst into tears of joy!!!

It is moments like this that we are happy to be a part of and that result in so much good being done by so many…..evidenced by our ability to donate a record high $42,000 to the KDA this year. This brings the total donations given to the KDA by the Texas Golf Scramble to $425,000!!

We don’t do this alone; we have many people that support us in a myriad of ways. From the volunteers, to the donors and supporters, and, of course, the all-important golfers. We even had a person in Chicago that bought a single raffle ticket for $10.00. They didn’t win anything, but I hope they know that we are as excited and grateful about their support as we are about the other donations!! It takes ALL of us, and we thank you!
