What is Kennedy’s Disease

KD is a X-linked, genetic, neuro-muscular disease which causes muscle weakness and atrophy throughout the body. Generally, males with this inherited gene develop symptoms, while females with this gene are carriers. Symptoms usually start appearing between the ages of 30 and 50. While life expectancy is almost normal, many men are wheelchair bound in their 50’s. Once thought to be very rare, there is growing evidence that many more people may have KD than previously thought. In the early stages, symptoms can be dismissed as just getting older.

What is the Kennedy’s Disease Association

The KDA is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) Corp. focused on finding a cure for Kennedy’s Disease. The KDA has provided over $3 million in funding since our inception) to global researchers through a competitive grants program funded by donations from our patients, their families and friends. KDA provides a support network for men who suffer from the disease and their caregivers. KDA works to increase awareness of the disease among health professionals and the general public. KDA sponsors an annual conference to bring patients, researchers, and clinicians together to share information and learn about developments in the search for a cure. To learn more, visit the KDA website: www.kennedysdisease.org

The Kennedy's Disease Association is recognized under United States of America Internal Revenue Code 501(c)3 as a publicly supported tax exempt organization as described in sections 509(a)1 and 170(b)1(A)(vi).
