  2. October 26, 2017 - Thanks to a new, $151,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Heather Montie and her team will spend the next two years creating a preclinical research model using zebrafish, which will hopefully help drive research in SBMA and eventually, help lead to a therapy for patients.   10. August 6, 2016 - SMA Drug Trial Goes So Well It Ends Early. This Los Angeles Times article on a new treatment for SMA Type 1 is very promising news and it might lead to additional breakthroughs for Type 2, 3 and 4. SMA is different then SBMA (Kennedy's Disease), but antisense technology is being used in other progressive disorders. To read the article, click here.

April 26, 2016 - Although JAMA Neurology published the following article in 2012, Molecular Pathophysiology and Disease-Modifying Therapies for Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy, the research information was just recently added this year to our Research Update archives.   19. December 2, 2015 - The KD group in Japan just published a study on exercises that they found can improve swallowing in KD patients. The paper can be found here. These exercises are quite straightforward and can be done anywhere one can lie down. A pdf of the exercises can be found here. The exercises are done 3 times a day, every day.

  26. October 4, 2014 - Heather Montie updates us on her "Investigating androgen receptor acetyltransferases as therapeutic targets for the treatment Kennedy's Disease" grant.
